Dengeki Online has released a new interview with the director of the Kingdom Hearts saga, the controversial Tetsuya Nomur, to celebrate the launch of Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory. During the interview Nomura talked about his plans for the saga and his thoughts on new chapters for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S.
Here are the highlights:
- The story of Xehanort ended with Kingdom Hearts III but there are questions and unsolved mysteries: Nomura wants to stay connected to the plot but he wants to change the format, changing the world and starting with a new story arc.
- It appears that we will no longer see Xehanort as the main antagonist although the effects of his actions will remain as shown in Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory.
- Nomura works by planning the following chapter from time to time: when he worked on the first Kingdom Hearts he was already thinking about Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories.
- Regarding future chapters for next-gen, Nomura thinks that, if they were created, they would still arrive after other companies have launched their own so that they have time to work and compete. Everything is still hypothetical since they have not yet announced anything about PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X (Nomura here replied laughing).
- In 2022 it will be the 20th anniversary of the launch of the original Kingdom Hearts and it seems that there are some news on the plan.
