LG Electronics received the coveted GM Innovation Award at General Motors' XNUMXth Annual Supplier of the Year Awards, an event held last week, for the first time in virtual form. The award was given to LG (and its sister company LG Display) for the development of the revolutionary P-OLED cockpit technology for the Cadillac Escalade 2021.
This year, more than 100 companies from 15 countries around the world have been recognized as GM's top suppliers but only five have received the prestigious Innovation Award. LG Electronics and LG Display were awarded for making cutting-edge technology and components that develop the vehicle's capabilities and driving experience. This is the second time that LG Electronics has been recognized by GM as a valuable partner: in 2016 it received the Innovation Award with LG Chem, for providing technologies and components to GM's electric vehicles.
The P-OLED Cockpit technology in the 2021 Cadillac Escalade is not only the centerpiece of the all-new design of the iconic SUV, but marks a starting point where LG's advanced Digital Cockpit Solution technology is integrated into a commercial vehicle for the first time. The 38-inch display consists of three different P-OLED panels of which the largest has a diagonal of 16.9 inches.
The three curved screens make up the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), an instrument panel from which basic information relating to the vehicle can be viewed, and the Integrated Central Stack (ICS) which acts as an infotainment display for audio, video and navigation. LG's futuristic display system provides a wide viewing angle, cutting-edge design and enhanced interface.
LG Electronics continues to work in synergy with GM in various industries and, since 2015, has supplied 11 important components, including infotainment systems, electronic panels, driving components, for the Chevrolet Bolt EV.
