The graphic adventures of the never too late LucasArts have been a real point of reference for the entire industry throughout the 90's.
One of the main architects of these great masterpieces is Tim Shafer who left LucasArts in 2000 to found Double Fine Productions, a studio that gave birth to titles such as Psychonauts, The Cave, Brütal Legend and Broken Age, before being acquired by Microsoft in 2019.
Well, yesterday, Shafer was a guest on Major Nelson's podcast (Microsoft Program Director for Xbox Live) and revealed that the remastered versions of the great classics LucasArts Grim Fandango, Day of the Tentacle and Full Throttle (remastered by Double Fine) will be added to the Xbox Game Pass catalog on October 29th.
Day of the Tentacle was released in 1993 as a sequel to Maniac Mansion (which can be played entirely within the remastered edition). During this bizarre puzzle adventure, we will take control of three characters intent on averting the conquest of the world by a huge purple tentacle.
Full Throttle (1995) it was written entirely by Tim Shafer and stars Ben Throttle: a motorcyclist wrongly accused of murder. To try to exonerate himself, Ben will start investigations that will bring to the surface a complicated web of events much bigger than him.
Grim Fandango is considered by many to be one of the greatest graphic adventures ever created, as well as true swan song of the kind that, in the late 90s, was heading towards the end of its glory days.
Released in 1999, Grim Fandango is set in the land of the dead, in a very successful mix between noir and Mexican folklore. The protagonist is an agent of death named Manny Calavera, whose job is to accompany the souls of the deceased through the land of the dead to the ninth afterlife: the land of eternal rest. However, Manny discovers a plot to steal the souls of the dead and will have to set out on a series of adventures in order to bring justice to the land of the dead.
In short, an unmissable opportunity to recover or replay these milestones of the videogame medium.
