After years of rumors about the highly anticipated sequel to the popular franchise, Payday 3 is sporting its first screenshot directly from the official Twitter account of the game. Considering the recent troubled years for the publisher and its development studies, the news sounds almost (pleasantly) sensational. Payday was in fact a coop title that for a long time made the fortunes of the Swedish house: born as a low-profile project, it had a resounding success with the public thanks to its addicting multiplayer gameplay, allowing the publisher to carry out other IPs, but without similar fortunes.

Actually the start of production of the third chapter of payday it had already been announced in 2017, but so far there was no concrete confirmation. According to CEO Bon Andersson Klint, the game will take all the time it needs, as today it represents the company's main brand and the cornerstone of its business. The news, however, came after the publisher revealed its financial results, showing a significant increase in revenues compared to the previous year.
In support of the screenshot of Payday 3 shown we also discover another important information: the Overkill Software study has switched to Unreal Engine. Phenomenal news as this will certainly facilitate a much faster and more efficient development cycle.
The Swedish company said it will release Payday 3 in 2022 or at the latest in 2023 (so presumably only on next-gen and PC platforms). The company is still in the throes of a brutal restructuring that has seen staff exodus and branches closed, but it still says it intends to continue its popular series (The Walking Dead and Dead by Daylight - ed).
