Originally PlayStation 5 it had to have a different size than the official release. According to the designer of the console Sony, Yujin Morisawa, the hardware had to be sized to contain the airflow and the heat sink. The engineering requests, following the drawings, convinced the designer to reduce the dimensions. The shapes and design of the new generation console, on the other hand, were explicitly decided for the aesthetic choices of Sony.
Yujin Morisawa explained: «I knew it was going to be great because I knew the power it would have, so I knew how much airflow it needed to not disturb the game and how much space for a heat sink. When you design something you want it to be right for its use. The hardware decided the size of the console, while the design and shape were Sony's aesthetic choice. We wanted it to be smaller and we believe this is the exact size ».
