Ninja Theory's next game, dubbed “Project Mara”, will take place in a luxury apartment. Technologies have been used to create the game environment in order to recreate the entire game world with as much realism as possible.
In a four-minute video, Ninja Theory creative director and co-founder Tameem Antoniades explained how the studio tried to "obsessively capture reality". The art team used a real-world apartment (featured in the video) and after taking numerous samples they scanned everything.
Game renders of a rug with countless bumps and curls are shown in the video. Hair and dust scattered around a wall are also shown.
The developers also used the skills of Clear Angle, a company specializing in 3D scanning, to scan the entire apartment. This allowed Ninja Theory to have "Point Clouds" of the apartment, in order to guarantee a right sense of scale and form.
“Project Mara” was announced in early 2020. Ninja Theory is now part of Xbox Game Studios, so it is very likely that it will be released as an Xbox and PC exclusive. From what we have seen so far, the game appears to follow in the footsteps of a young woman afflicted with "mental terror" based on real research and reports.
