Resident Evil stands for survival horror and as such the first weapon to master is a survival guide: chapter 7 Biohazard is no exception, therefore… stay safe! In this regard, it will be essential learn how to make the most of safe rooms.
These are a familiar feature in Resident Evil: they are a place to save your progress and reorder inventory in item boxes. Wherever in the game you find a save point of the VHS player is in fact a safe room and a place where enemies cannot reach you.
An interesting trick, for example, to exploit with the safe rooms in Resident Evil VII, is that if an enemy is chasing you or has materialized nearby, it will disappear as soon as you enter. If you know of a safe room to retreat to, you can avoid a fight altogether and just run to the nearest one.
Objects yes, but sparingly
A constant in Resident Evil games is the scarcity of items, healing and otherwise, as well as ammo. So it's advisable to only use items whenever you really need them. Learn the weaknesses of the enemies first and, where possible, combine herbs with chemical fluids to increase their potency and use them when your health is at its lowest. Also, while the knife isn't of much use in combat, it can save you from using ammo to break Mr Everywhere's figurines or open chests.
Resident Evil 7 fits firmly into the old school tradition of the saga, but in this survival guide we haven't yet specified that the game viewing is in first person. An obvious repercussion of this is that you can no longer see the enemies directly behind you. The sound design of the game will always warn you when something is near you, but where possible it will always be better to face opponents during the fight, to be aware of their approximate position when you run away or attempt sudden turns in some tunnel.
Another thing that will help you is learn to close the doors behind you between the areas, as most of the enemies in the game will no longer be able to follow you. As mentioned in the first tip on this page, it won't be necessary with secure rooms, as they will automatically protect you as soon as you enter.
Resident Evil 7 survival guide: fighting!
Combat has some little tricks worth knowing to increase your chances of survival:
- With the exception of boss battles, the weak point of all enemies is the head, so aim there for maximum damage;
- There will be times when you will inevitably be hit by an enemy: in this case, hold down the parry button to protect yourself and reduce the amount of damage taken;
- Learn to make quick 180-degree changes of direction, perfect for escaping;
- You can reload weapons while sprinting, which is especially useful during boss fights;
- There is no splinter damage in the game, so feel free to throw grenades or place bombs in your immediate vicinity if necessary;
- Safe rooms = stay safe!
