It would be nice to be able to go back in time five years (and a few months) and tell a Shenmue fan what has happened in recent months, because we are sure that it would be hard to believe it: first the return of the series with the long-awaited Shenmue III, which saw the light in 2019 after years of silence and waiting, while now comes the announcement of the production of one animated series based on Yu Suzuki's games and named Shenmue the Animation.
The anime, born from a collaboration between the streaming platform Crunchyroll and Adult Swim is in production at Telecom Animation Film (Tower of God, Lupine III - Return to the origins) and will be directed by Chikara Sakurai (who collaborated on the second season of One-Punch Man), with Yu Suzuki who will instead play the role of executive producer on the project.
