Rodney Reece had a secret, until today. The former Naughty Dog, now in force at Respawn Entertainment and Apex Legends, has decided to break the silence after years and reveal an Uncharted easter egg in The Last of Us most likely never discovered before today.
The seaplane piloted by Sully makes its appearance directly from Uncharted in the "Beach" level in The Last of Us multiplayer, although it is very different from how we have been accustomed to seeing it: it appears in fact as a wreck rusted by time, another unwitting victim of the Cordyceps fungus.
You know, here is an easter egg I've been holding onto since 2013.
In the Last of Us on the map "Beach," there are remnants of a propeller plane. That plane is Sully's plane from Uncharted 1.
Not saying that's canon. But I took it from U1, broke it into pieces, & put it there. pic.twitter.com/SQjFXn68HZ

The universe of Uncharted and The Last of Us is therefore the same? No, and Reece himself confirms it: “I'm not saying it's canon, but I took the plane from Uncharted 1 [Drake's Fortune, ed], I split it into pieces and put it there“. Easter eggs, at times, remain winks to other games (and not) by the developers.
Some examples?
- Uncharted 3 returned the favor by headlining a newspaper article about the new mushroom that is giving scientists many sleepless nights - a clear reference to the epidemic that breaks out in The Last of Us's first few minutes and sets the mood of the title.
- The Uncharted 4 team did not miss the opportunity to add a few more Easter eggs to the world of Joel and Ellie.
- Sully's seaplane is called Hog Wild - the name of a level in the first Crash Bandicoot.
On the still living legacy of the two series, The Last of Us: Part II will be the protagonist of The Game Awards 2020, named as Game of the Year, while faint rumors about Uncharted 5 begin to be heard.
