120 fps on next-gen consoles? Several titles of the past generation join them on the new Microsoft consoles, but failing to record the same frame rate on the PlayStation 5.
There are many games that reach 120 fps: Rocket League will soon receive an update for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, while this will not happen for the PS5. A complete porting would be required on the Sony console - explains a Psyonix developer - while on Microsoft consoles a patch is sufficient.
Rocket League isn't even the first case, with Star Wars: Squadrons and Call of Duty: Warzone similarly presenting 120 fps on Xbox Series X but stuck at 60 fps on Sony console.
As explained by Digital Foundry, Sony would currently limit 120fps to titles developed exclusively for PS5, thereby excluding enhanced versions of PS4 games such as Rocket League and Warzone. Obviously all this does not exclude that the titles in question reach this value in the future thanks to specific updates.
