If you are not yet familiar with Blasphemous and its pitfalls, here you will find a guide to defeating Merciless.
Continuing your pilgrimage through the lands of Cvstodia you will find yourself in Dreams of Mercy, an area full of traps that look very much like a prison. Once you have overcome all the difficulties in the area, you will enter a suggestive area, preceded by a Prie Dieu, inside which you will find a peculiar statue to say the least. A partly human, partly plant and goat-headed creature lies apparently dead in a woman's arms. Just like in the famous Michelangelo statue.
When you shorten the distance between you and the statue, the being will awaken, disturbed by your presence, and will try to kill you. Mercilessly (or in the original Ten Piedad) has a wider variety of attacks than the previous Silent Guardian, and will immerse you completely in Blasphemous gameplay. The boss will try to keep you away from him as much as possible, to prevent you from attacking him, through area attacks and growing brambles from the ground.
The best way to defeat Merciless is learning how to parry the blows inflicted by enemies with the parry: in this way you will be able to get closer and closer to the boss to hit him. This method, however, it doesn't work when using the swipe attack and stomp attack: with the first one he will try to hit you using his arms, in the second case he will throw his foot to the ground generating a shock wave.
Without PietĂ has a second phase, but there is no animation that announces it: you will notice its arrival when the bushes that will grow from the ground will increase in number compared to the beginning of the bossfight. When Merciless is defeated you will be rewarded with 625 Tears of Redemption and unlock the No Mercy achievement. If you would like to learn more about the world of Blasphemous, we invite you to read the news section and the other guides, in particular the first of this series: how to defeat the Guardian of the Silent Lament.
