Bonding with your horse is one of the key parts in Red Dead Redemption 2, because it will allow you to better maneuver the horse and get different advantages during the game. Increasing the bond can take a very long time, so here is one guide on how to maximize this bond in the fastest way possible. (Note: the commands listed, when present, are those related to the game version for PlayStation 4)
Levels of bonding
In the title there are 4 different levels which indicate the level of bonding with your horse. Going up to the next level, as mentioned above, you get additional benefits, which are listed below:
- Level 1: the health and stamina of the horse increase.
- Level 2: you can call the horse from greater distances, even while you are fighting.
- Level 3: Your horse can move on more rugged terrain and can also cross places where the water is deeper.
- Level 4: your horse becomes more difficult to steal.
Leveling up will also unlock some special moves. TO level 2 by holding R1 and pressing the square button, the horse will be able to rear up from a standstill. The level 3 will allow you to stop or turn quickly by holding down R1 and pressing the X key. A level 4 on the other hand, by holding down the square button, you can perform a Piaffé, a particular move that only the most trained equines perform.
How to increase the bond
So how to increase the bond with your steed and rise up to the maximum bond level? Here are some simple solutions:
- Ride without consuming stamina: To do this, one of the simplest methods is to put a marker on the map and then use the horse's automatic travel function, so you can arrive at your destination without having to do anything.
- Feeding your horse: feeding your steed is very important and can be done by buying food in the stables. To feed it to our faithful travel companion, just select it from the weapon wheel. It is important to be careful not to feed the creature too much, as an excess will bring several negative effects.
- Calm the horse when it is agitated: in case the horse becomes agitated by enemies or other dangerous animals, the player can calm him down by pressing the L3 key. This will bring an increase in the level of friendship with the steed.
- Grooming your horse when it is dirty: to groom your horse just press L2 to focus your gaze on it and then press left on the d-pad to clean it. It is important to remember that this function is only active if the horse is dirty.
