An announcement awaited by many, Outriders has a launch date set for February 2, 2021 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, PC and Google Staff and will be accompanied by cross-play that will allow you to play together regardless of the platform in your possession.
Square Enix confirmed that players who purchase Outriders for the current generation consoles will be able to take advantage of a free upgrade from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 version via disc support while Xbox One owners will be able to get the Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S version via Smart Delivery.
The announcement was commented by Jon Brooke, Co-Head of Studio at Square Enix External Studios, stressing the importance of cross-gen functionality:
We are thrilled to announce that we can offer Outriders players full cross-play support and a generation change upgrade plan. The best part is that even if you don't buy your PS5 or XSX right away, we'll still have your back and you won't have to wait. By purchasing OUTRIDERS for the current console generation, we will offer you the version for the next one for free
While Lee Singleton, the other Co-Head of Studio at Square Enix External Studios, highlighted the importance of cross-play:
We're taking more time to make sure players have the best Outriders experience possible. We also want to include new features like cross-play to make the game even more accessible across all platforms
In short, for Outriders the appointment is set for the first months of 2021, with the date of February 2, when we will be able to put our hands on the new shooter with rpg elements of Square Enix coming to current generation consoles and the upcoming next gen.
