Last week we had the pleasure of being able to preview a full-bodied hands off of Pathfinder Kingmaker Definitive Edition, extensively revised and corrected version that will see the light on ours PC, but especially on consoles starting next August 18th.
Pathfinder Kingmaker, for the uninitiated, is a RPG with isometric view developed by Owlcat games and distributed by Deep Silver which, as the title can easily guess, brings to the screen the settings and regulations of Pathfinder, a well-known “pen and paper” role-playing game of the same name.
The main goal of this Pathfinder Kingmaker Definitive Edition is the landing of the title on the major consoles of this generation now running out, PlayStation 4 e Xbox One. Nintendo Switch was excluded from this restyling operation because, according to the team, it would have required too much work to be completed without sacrificing anything. As for the PC version, however, the owners of the old editions of the game will receive a substantial update for free on the day of the release., which will add all the news and improvements that the Definitive Edition provides.
As easily understood, one of the focal points of Pathfinder Kingmaker Definitive Edition on console is undoubtedly that of pad control. For this reason the various commands and interfaces, as well as the menus, have been completely revised and adapted to the new type of control.
But the news does not stop there: the most substantial addition is undoubtedly the introduction of the turn-based combat system.
Of course, the original real-time combat system with tactical pauses has not been abandoned: it will be possible to switch at any time, even during the fighting, from one mode to another without any problem, leaving the player to choose the type of gameplay who deems most suitable (or even just stimulating) situation by situation.
With turn-based combat, however, which is certainly better suited to the somewhat less reactive control system of the consoles, everything takes a much more strategic and reasoned turn, going to get even closer to the "table" experience of the original game. role-playing of Pathfinder, whose rules and mechanics are faithfully reproduced even in these new digital incarnations.
If the fights have benefited from this new feature, the exploration phases have instead remained as they were before, in real time, with our party of heroes that moves freely around the game environments, made as always in an impeccable way and with a pleasant old school aftertaste.
It's just a pity that the view cannot be rotated at will, thus sometimes creating somewhat confusing situations in our opinion, especially if you don't use turn-based combat mode.
As for previous versions, not even in Pathfinder Kingmaker Definitive Edition there will be a multiplayer mode, because the developers wanted to concentrate as much as possible on the single player experience, focusing everything on the old-school RPG style that Pathfinder wants to recall and make it as current as possible. .
