In Pokémon Go, as in its portable console predecessors, trainers can fight inside gyms. However, the operation is not quite the same, in Pokèmon Go it is a little more complex.
Finding the gyms is very easy: just like Pokéstops are marked on the map but their structure is much higher and more imperious and colorful than these. To enter it, however, two conditions are necessary: you must have reached the fifth trainer level (just catch Pokémon and visit Pokéstop) and join one of the three teams (after reaching lv 5, just click on a gym to choose).
Once the team has been chosen, there will be two types of gyms: friendly ones and rival ones. The first will be those that will belong to our team while the rivals will be those conquered by the other two. We will be able to fight in all gyms but with some differences.
By fighting in rival gyms (and, of course, winning) we will take away prestige from rivals at that given gym. To see how much prestige is, just look at the number at the top right as soon as we select it. In addition to this we will also be able to see the trainers who preside over it, their level, the Pokémon they have deployed in defense and the strength of the latter.
When the prestige of the opposing gym drops to zero (after beating all the opposing coaches) the gym will be empty and we can conquer it for our team. To do this we will have to choose six Pokémon to face the opposing trainers. Preferably the Pokémon to choose should be the 6 strongest but we must also pay attention to the type of opposing Pokémon, therefore keeping an eye on ours too.
Just click on the icon at the bottom right to start the fight.
Attack a gym
Starting the battle we will not be faced with a turn-based battle: the battle will be based only on the statistics of the Pokémon, their type and our reflexes. To dodge the attacks, just slide our fingers to the right or left, to attack instantly click on our Pokémon and, instead, for special attacks we will have to wait until the bar assigned to them is charged, clicking on the Pokémon while maintaining the pressure on it. Watch out for dodging, as it will prove to be one of the crucial moves for victory, especially if our Pokémon's type is weak compared to the opponent's.
To bring home victory in the simplest way, as already mentioned, we will need to keep an eye on the type of our Pokémon and their strength: beating a rock type at 599 pl with an electric type at 100 pl will not be a challenge. by a few, so to speak.
In case our Pokémon go KO it will take a revitalizer and potions to bring it back to full form.
To train
To train instead, just go to one of the gyms of our team, making us also earn experience points both in case of victory and defeat. In addition, we will also earn prestige points for our team by fortifying their presence in that gym.
The mechanics will be the same unlike, however, that we will be able to fight with only one Pokémon instead of six. For each defeated trainer we will gain prestige and we will be able to leave one of our Pokèmon to defend the gym, in addition to those already present: however we will receive it back only when we are beaten so it will not be convenient to deploy our strongest Pokémon if the gym is already well manned. If our Pokémon will resist for at least one day, we can return to the gym and collect prizes, namely Pokémonete and Stardust!
