How are candies obtained?
Candy is an item that can be obtained from a Pokémon that has just been caught or obtained after hatching an egg (egg guide). Typically, received Pokémon will give 3 Candy of their type at a time.
A Candy can be obtained by transferring the Pokémon to Professor Willow.
Each Candy obtained is named after the pre-evolved Pokémon, for example Pidgey provide Pidgey Candy, but Pidgeotto and Pidgeot (evolved forms of Pidgey) also provide Pidgey Candy.
How to transfer a Pokémon?
Click on the Pokémon menu and the Pokémon you want to transfer. At the bottom of its detail page there is the "TRANSFER" button. It is recommended to transfer the double Pokémon with the lowest CP.
What are candies used for?
They are used to Upgrade and Evolve Pokémon. Each type of Pokémon requires a certain number of Candies to be upgraded.
To upgrade, click on the Pokémon menu and on the Pokémon you want to upgrade, then click on the "UPGRADE" button (the number of Candies required for each upgrade is shown next to the button).
Once the Pokémon's power-up bar is filled, the trainer must move to the next level in order to upgrade further.
How can I evolve the Pokémon now that I have the Candy I need?
To evolve click on the Pokémon menu and on the Pokémon you want to evolve, then click on the “EVOLVE” button (the number of Candies needed for evolution is shown next to the button). If you don't have enough Candy, the button is not clickable.
If the “EVOLVE” button is not present on the detail page, it means that the Pokémon cannot be evolved.
Going to the Pokédex you can check how many and what evolutions are available for each Pokémon captured.
How many Candies does it take to evolve my Pokémon?
It mostly depends on the rarity of the Pokémon. Here you will find a detailed list of the number of Candies needed for all evolutions.
