We talked extensively about Monster Hunter World, as well as the reasons that will push it to be an excellent title for this 2018. Now the time has come to lend a hand to those who approach this series for the first time, explaining a dozen useful tips perfect for those who will start their journey as a hunter with World.
1) Practice first of all
Whether you played one or both Betas released by Capcom prior to the Monster Hunter World release matters little now. The training area will be the first place where you should spend the first hours of the game, as the weapons are so many, and for a novice it will be almost impossible to use them all to perfection. Practice with each weapon, test the various combinations and discover the unique mechanics that each equipment has - such as the Spirit Blade of the longsword, or the Demon mode of the double blades - to determine which will be the first weapon to start playing with. really.
2) Mission preparations
Going headlong into a quest in order to complete it quickly is the first mistake not to make. There are many preparations to make, starting with the item box through which you can collect and deliver all the resources according to your needs. Having lots of potions is obviously important, but remember that you can use the crate to dispose of materials that you do not currently need to make room for what you recover on the field during missions - whether they are materials obtained from the environment, or parts of monsters - and make sure you don't throw anything away.
3) Test your skills offline
The multiplayer component of Monster Hunter World is undoubtedly what conquers the fans, making the title long-lived, almost interminable. However, you don't want to ballast your group, right? Put into action what you have learned so far, between the training room and the various tutorials, to try your hand at the first few stages of solo hunts, with the only help of the Felyne. World will allow the progression of the main storyline even when playing Online, but our advice remains to improve yourself in order to be a valid component of an Online team when some really tough missions are released.
4) Know your enemy
Each large monster in the series has its own moveset, although some of the creatures featured in the title behave similarly (at least in previous chapters). Studying the way monsters move closely is the first step towards victory, as being able to predict - even minimally - the enemy's behavior will allow you to behave accordingly. A tigrex is used to unleash itself in two or three consecutive charges following a very precise trajectory aimed at the hunter, while the Rathalos has the habit of firing fireballs both from the ground and from the sky, where it becomes vulnerable if you shoot lightning pods in front. in his eyes. Get to know the monsters and you will greatly increase the chances of victory!
5) Elemental attributes and status
Beyond the attack and defense value that weapons and armor confer on the hunter, there is a part deriving from them that plays a key role within the battle system. Much of the equipment grants elemental attributes, or sometimes status, which can further damage the monster. If we take the Rathalos as an example, this is weak to thunder and strong to fire and using weapons with the right attribute will inflict additional damage that will certainly make the battle less long and difficult. Some weapons, on the other hand, are able to numb, paralyze or poison the monster, but they will have to be hit repeatedly - and this also varies depending on the attribute value of the weapon and the monster's status resistance - to ensure that the status is effectively inflicted. The same applies to the hunter: use a fire-resistant armor and face a Rathalos, you will notice that his elemental attacks will be dampening, but this does not apply to his physical attacks, whose damage is still related to the general defense conferred by the armor.
6) Take care of your Felyne
Whether you play offline or online, there is only one companion that will always be with you: the Felyne. Your ally will increase their skills and level by hunting with you, and will be able to learn many useful support functions. Make sure you follow his growth, equip his gadgets that need to level up and always provide him with good equipment thanks to the materials obtained from monsters. Remember that Felyne's weapons can also have attributes, including status ones.
7) The right use of the structures of Astera
During the game you will unlock different structures. Speaking with the relevant employees you can take advantage of some functions that will allow you to find raw materials while you are out on a mission. At regular intervals you can receive herbs, minerals and even large monster parts, depending on your requests. You will do well never to forget to use them before leaving on a mission, especially the cultivation room, the expeditions of the hunters and the loads of goods that the captain regularly brings every 3 game missions.
8) Use the ecosystem to your advantage
More than ever on Monster Hunter World the role of the environment surrounding the hunter takes on a heavy significance. Knowing where and how to move plays a winning card in your favor. Always observe what surrounds you, even above you. In some areas it is possible to drop boulders by breaking the wooden supports that support them; or you will notice small toads scattered around the map, all of different colors: these toads are able to paralyze, fall asleep or (yes) let themselves explode. However, it will be up to you to lure the big monster in that area and make it subject to your traps. Last but not least, it should be remembered that luring a large monster to an area where another is present could trigger a territorial dispute. The monsters will damage themselves relatively little, but in the meantime you can sharpen the blade and heal yourself.
9) Making baby food!
Eating in Monster Hunter World brings temporary but enormous benefits to the hunter. In addition to increasing the health and stamina bar, you will have a significant boost in parameters depending on the chosen dish. Unlike the previous Monster Hunter, you can also eat during the mission thanks to the assistant present in the camps. Finally, it is highly recommended to complete the missions entrusted by Chef Miauscoloso, the chief kitchen of Astera. New ingredients will be added to the menu and consequently better benefits and a greater probability of activating some skills given by food.
10) Never give up!
It may sound silly as advice, but we realize that Monster Hunter can feel a bit like a real challenge for those venturing out into the series for the first time. Therefore, this may paradoxically be the most important advice: if you lose, try again. If the monster is insidious, study its moves. If you take too much damage from a single attack, craft more durable equipment. And most importantly: there are many approaches to dealing with different monsters. Sometimes switching weapons and how you fight is the most effective strategy. Do not be intimidated by the early stages of the game, but respond to the hunt with the knife between your teeth!
