Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - Boss Guide

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - Boss Guide

Playing Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is a bit like fighting yourself: before you lay down it takes time and a lot of pain. Here is a guide to some of the more mangy bosses in the title.

    Jozuo the Drunk

It's technically just a miniboss, but it's problematic enough to need a little bit of strategy, also considering the fact that he is perennially surrounded by annoying minions ... some distracting meat from the slaughterhouse, practically.

First you will have to thin out the number of enemies using the road on the left that goes around Jozuo. We get some stealth kills then a couple of consecutive quick kills and repeat the round, continuing on move some elements away from the group to delete them without alerting the main group. At some point Jozuo may lose track of you, allowing you to place a couple of very painful stealth shots. Get the NPC involved and convince him to fight with you so that he has a better chance of hitting Jozuo when his attention is called by the NPC.

    The Moth

The trick to beating her is to be aggressive and never give up. Approach, hit her twice, parry, hit her again. Ideally you should get into combat with the Shuriken prostheses to bring it back to the ground when it rises in flight, otherwise you will have to be very careful of its attack in mid-air: if it hits you are almost certainly dead.

When she summons her illusions, run across the room and she will summon them, turning them into an offensive wave against you, an attack that you can block by staying behind one of the wooden columns. Remember to avoid her sweep attack, try jumping on her to do some posture damage.

    Gyoubu Oniwa

Almost indispensable tool is the Castagnola prosthesis. Use it at most a couple of times in the first phase, as facing the second part without it is really difficult. When he starts using the whip, get close and he won't hurt you, a great chance to return the favor.

In its second phase it will attack you with every successful Castagnola hit. Don't be too greedy: hit him a couple of times, step back, repeat.

    Fiery Bull

For this boss too, aggression is the keystone of the fight, with the help of Castagnola. Don't get hooked on Taurus but focus on his rear legs, hitting him and moving according to his movement so as to continue dealing damage to him.

After a while it will start to mount, approach it and do as much damage as possible before it does to you, use the Castagnola and finish it.

    Armored Warrior

One of the most stubborn bosses, if not dealt with in the right way. You will only need sword, ax and patience. Regardless of the deadly blows that you unleash against him, he will not give up, so to defeat him permanently you have to have him destroy the walls of the wooden bridge and then fly him down in “This is Sparta“ style.

In combat, use the ax as much as possible, especially in the Warrior's attacks which leave him more exposed on his side. Keep going around it to take advantage of every attack opportunity, and back off a couple of steps as soon as the warning of impending damage appears. Finally, if you see him bending down and screaming, get away as much as possible as a devastating attack is about to start that will shorten the distances a lot.

    Genichiro Ashina

One of the most difficult bosses, he is not to be faced with mere aggression. Use theax at each opportunity, following with a normal attack to create a small combo. In its first two forms an arrow will shoot every time you heal, but luckily drinking the potion takes less time for you than shooting the arrow takes him, so take a side step as soon as you're done drinking to dodge the attack.

In his first form, most attacks are non-counterable thrusts, so respond by moving sideways and hitting him from behind, while just jumping (even on him) to avoid attacks in the second and third form. The latter is perhaps the most worrying, but the lack of armor makes Genichiro weak in posture: use this weakness to your advantage and hit him without giving him respite, avoiding remaining with his feet on the ground when he starts the lightning attacks.
