Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the definitive Nintendo mash-up, it's finally here and we all can't wait to use our favorite characters to kick everyone out of the ring.
The problem is that, as expected, not all fighters will be available from the start, neither in the main campaign nor in Smash mode (the free battle). From the first start we could in fact play in all the scenarios and listen to all the soundtracks, but we will have a very limited roster made up of only 8 characters out of 74.

Unlike previous chapters, in which certain conditions had to be met to unlock new characters, in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate we will have the opportunity to challenge every 10 minutes of actual game a new fighter and add him to your roster if you win. Making a quick calculation we can guess that it would take at least 13 hours of play before we have the possibility to choose who we want among the 74 fighters.
Don't despair, there is an extremely simple way to speed things up.
The guide in 5 simple steps
Before starting, we need to specify what we mean by actual playing time. Going to the "Statistics" section of the Smash Bros. menu we will notice that there are two different counters for the time spent in-game: one shows the total time spent on the software, including navigation in the menus and moments of inactivity, while the other it refers only and solely to the time spent in battle.
Of course, the 10 minutes needed to meet new challengers will only be counted in battle.
Having said that let's find out how to get around the problem in 5 steps:
- After playing for the first ten minutes and exiting the last battle report, the first challenger will appear. Whether you win or not, stop and do not face any more battles.
- Go back to the Home of your console and close the software by pressing X.
- Restart the game.
- Create a custom game by setting a single life for Characters to win as fast as possible.
- Choose your favorite character and fight. Once the battle is over a new challenger will appear, this time without the need to play for 10 minutes.
By faithfully following these steps, you can unlock each character with about an hour of gameplay.
You could use this method simply to quickly get your favorite character and then continue as normal. Or you could unlock them all in a row as long as you defeat each challenger, of course. If you use this trick, always keep in mind that the characters unlocked in this way will only be usable in Smash mode since in the main World of Light campaign the fighters are obtained in a different way.
