Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is a game in which building a functioning party is less simple than it might seem. Due to an AI that is not always perfect, we tend to be safe with very basic parties, but in reality the potential for differentiated groups is enormous. The feature build system using gems and the unique gameplay of the various characters greatly expand what can be achieved with the right amount of study and experimentation. So let's go through these possibilities, giving you some advice on which party to use in Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.
Small Premise, we will use the name "7" to identify the last character of the party, to avoid spoiling his identity
Balanced Party - "Basic team"
This type of party is what most players use, falling victim to the fact that it is made up of the first 3 usable party characters. Shulk, Reyn and Sharla. Shulk is a great DPS and will remain in the party for much of the adventure anyway, given his ability to damage Mechanics and the ability to share this trait with his companions via Monad skills. Built with Strength and Double Attack as a priority it turns out to be a ram that can focus on attacking alone, which is perfect for this team.
Reyn on the other hand is the most basic tank there is, but also more effective at the level of aggro management, making him a perfect companion for taking hits without losing aggro due to Shulk's massive damage. To conclude Sharla is the classic healer, her skills are almost exclusively about healing and she can be built to do just that. The team is defined as "Basic Team" because it adequately covers all roles, without excelling in any.
Party Safe - "Healer Build"
This type of party allows you to avoid using a tank, instead having a considerable amount of healing. It consists of using Shulk, 7 or Melia as DPS, accompanied by Sharla and Riki. The advantage of this team is that Riki is able to debuff, steal and deal good damage, so it stands as a team with higher DPS than the previous one., while remaining extremely safe thanks to the treatments in very high quantities. If you choose to use Shulk or 7, you will have an extra instant heal skill, while with Melia you will have physical defense buffs, agility and a Regen.
For this combination we suggest trying Melia, taking control of it, being the best DPS in Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition.
Party DPS - "Tank agile"
The Tank Agile party is a complex enough one to run in Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, unlike Xenoblade 2 where Morag was very strong in this role, but still worth the time investing as it has the highest DPS. The tank will be Dunban, which will have to be built Strength and Agility, the first to be able to maintain the aggro, the second to dodge attacks. This build allows you to limit the use of healers and instead have 2 DPS. Using Shulk, 7 or Melia in any of their combinations is absolutely viable and allows you to do so much damage that you can ignore the existence of the healers, while maintaining some care for emergencies.
Melia's regen is particularly useful in this combination, however having Melia in the party means having to use her, as her AI doesn't take advantage of the girl's incredible moveset. 7 and Shulk, on the other hand, are very similar, which is why, although they can be used together, we do not recommend their use in pairs, unless you improvise 7 as an agile tank, valid but less effective than Dunban. A safer alternative would be to put Riki, built towards damage, to have a character capable of simultaneously healer and tank in case of emergency thanks to the exaggerated HP pool.
In conclusion, here are our proposals for a balanced and carefully studied party with which to excel in Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition
