Red Dead Redemption 2 has a system based on Arthur's honor, which allows you to get different endings based on your choices during the course of the main story. The title keeps track of all your choices, which will affect weather conditions, cutscenes, music tracks and, of course, the ending.
If you decide to play as a dishonorable Arthur, you will notice him during some cut-scenes where a wolf appears indicating that you are currently en route to the negative ending. If, on the other hand, you are walking the path to the positive ending, a deer will appear instead of the wolf. However, regardless of your small choices during the course of the plot, there is one event in particular that heavily affects the ongoing events and therefore the final.
That said, we still warn you that the rest of this article contains heavy spoilers about the ending. Gamer forewarned, forearmed!
You will sense that you are close to this moment when Arthur and John separate from the rest of Dutch's Gang, Micah included. You will have the following options available to you during this section of the game: Save John and help him escape, or make a deal with Dutch money.
How to get the best ending
By choosing the first option, you will end up helping John, you will have to help him escape into the mountains as you run into Pinkerton. You'll still end up facing Micah, but the fight will end in a draw as Dutch will show up and stop you from killing him. After a series of conversations and although Arthur is already ill with tuberculosis, Dutch and Micah will leave him alone as he expires in the face of sunset. During the finale, you will once again see a sequence with a deer, to symbolize your honorable actions during the course of the game.
How to get the worst ending
Choosing to go back to Dutch's camp for the money. You will also find yourself here facing Micah, inside a quarry. The duel will still result in a draw as Dutch swoop in to stop Arthur from killing him. During this section the protagonist will try to convince Dutch that Micah is indeed a sewer rat.
Unfortunately, this idea will fail and Micah will draw his gun again to kill the already sick Arthur by shooting him in the face. Finally, during the final sequences you will notice the wolf we have already mentioned before.
